Have you ever tried to learn more about some incredible thing, only to be frustrated by incomprehensible jargon? Randall Munroe is here to help. In Thing Explainer, he uses line drawings and only the thousand (or, rather, “ten hundred”) most common words to provide simple explanations for some of the most interesting stuff there is, including:

  • food-heating radio boxes (microwaves)

  • tall roads (bridges)

  • computer buildings (datacenters)

  • the shared space house (the International Space Station)

  • the other worlds around the sun (the solar system)

  • the big flat rocks we live on (tectonic plates)

  • the pieces everything is made of (the periodic table)

  • planes with turning wings (helicopters)

  • boxes that make clothes smell better (washers and dryers)

  • the bags of stuff inside you (cells)

How do these things work? Where do they come from? What would life be like without them? And what would happen if we opened them up, heated them up, cooled them down, pointed them in a different direction, or pressed this button? In Thing Explainer, Munroe gives us the answers to these questions and so many more. Funny, interesting, and always understandable, this book is for anyone—age 5 to 105—who has ever wondered how things work, and why.

The thing about this book is that it only uses the ten hundred most used words by people to tell you about things that are hard to understand. It makes it sound kind of strange because you hear some words over and over again, but all in all, it is a very fun book to look at.

The man that wrote the book wrote about "Under a car's front cover" and the "US Space Team's Up Goer Five" and lots of things that have to do with a "Sky Boat." There is a page about "Colors of Light" but it is in black and white, so it is not as good as other pages. There is a big table in the middle that is "the pieces everything is made of" that has "the stuff they put in pools so nothing bad can grow in them," "brown metal that we use to carry power and voices" and "stuff you drink so doctors can look inside your body" along with all the other rocks and metals and air that is really fun to look at.

The 'ten hundred words' limit does not get stale or ever truly 'limit' Munroe - he still manages to write some seriously interesting and educational stuff while keeping it entertaining. The whole way through you'll be making connections between what the simplified words mean and what you know from real life, but you'll also be learning a lot of new things. It's especially great when, through such simple terminology, you find out the answer to a question you never would've considered asking, like how Everest is not the furthest point from the center of earth, and that one of Uranus' moons once orbited the sun.

And that terminology gives way not only to humour but also to an insane amount of charm and sentiment. The introduction reads out like a child trying to explain why they've written a book. I personally love the section at the bottom of the page on "Tall Roads" (bridges) where Munroe writes with a child's voice about how bridges are so physically useful and well constructed, that life on other planets might use very similar models, and that somewhere, an alien might be looking at a bridge just like the one Munroe was looking at, and thinking about Munroe, too.

This is a great book for everyone. I'm a parent of a 5-year old and I love reading it to him. I've only read a few pages but it looks packed full of great stuff from "bags of water inside you" (molecules) to the periodic table of elements. This book is awesome. Even better than expected.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Visual Dictionary

Read-Star-Wars-The-Force-Awakens-Visual-DictionaryRead Star Wars: The Force Awakens Visual Dictionary book online now. You also can download other books, magazine and also comics. Get online Star Wars: The Force Awakens Visual Dictionary today.

The definitive guide to the characters, droids, aliens, and creatures of Star Wars: The Force Awakens™. Beautiful photography and clear, authoritative text by Lucasfilm insider Pablo Hidalgo names and explains all the details of costumes, weapons, and accessories. Includes three exclusive, specially commissioned cutaway models produced by Industrial Light & Magic model maker John Goodson.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Visual Dictionary is a 80-page hardcover book that covers the characters, set and props. While vehicles and spaceships are also included, you'll see them in more detail and huge in the other book Star Wars: The Force Awakens Incredible Cross-Sections.

The pictures are laid out like infographics. Each main subject has lots of labels and descriptions attached. Main characters are all in like Rey, Finn, BB-8, Poe, Kylo Ren, Stormtroopers, Flametroopers, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and many more. The noticeably missing ones would be (Oops, spoilers!) Luke Skywalker and Supreme Leader Snoke. If they are in the movie, I don't know why they aren't in the book, not even a mere mention or small coverage, since there's no mystery behind them anymore for fans who have watched the film.

But overall, it's a fantastic book. It's so detailed. Such as for Kylo Ren, it also includes the interrogation chair, interrogation tools, vader's mask, Kylo Ren's helmet, and a close up cross-section of Kylo's lightsaber. I've always thought the lightsabers were powered by lithium batteries? Kidding. But it does show all the mechanism that make the lightsaber work.

Great Resource and Collection Item!

This is an excellent resource book. Purchased it for my adult brother and Godson, along with the Star Wars character encyclopedia as part n of their Christmas gifts. My brother perused it all night as it provided even deeper meaning into new characters he was introduced to in The Force Awakens. This is definitely a valuable addition to your Star Wars collection.

Our lives become busier with each passing day, and as technology escalates, so does our access to work, obligations, and stress. Constant stimulation and expectation have left us burnt out and distanced from the present moment. "Now" has become something that happens online, not in the space and time that we physically occupy. Color Me Calm is a guided coloring book designed for harried adults. Art therapist Lacy Mucklow and artist Angela Porter offer up 100 coloring templates all designed to help you get coloring and get relaxed. Organized into seven therapeutically-themed chapters including Mandalas, Water Scenes, Wooded Scenes, Geometric Patterns, Flora & Fauna, Natural Patterns, and Spirituality - the book examines the benefits of putting pencil to paper and offers adults an opportunity to channel their anxiety into satisfying, creative accomplishment. Part of the international bestselling Color Me series, Color Me Calm is the perfect way step back from the stress of everyday life, color, and relax!

=======>> READ BOOK ONLINE NOW, CLICK HERE <<=======

I am fairly new to adult coloring books but I have now acquired several. I really like this one because of the variety of the images. I can find something for whatever mood i am in and that is appropriate for whatever medium i want to color in, pencils , gel pens or markers. I have used Crayola , Artist's Loft (Michael's store brand) and CraZart color pencils, Bic Mark-it, Sharpie, Stabilio 88, and Staedtler Triplus markers, and a wide variety of gel pens including Jelly Roll, Target's Up brand, staples store brand and many others I'm not ever sure of the brand anymore. I ave attache some pages that I have completed and there is at least one from each section and done in each type of media that I have.

I usually color sitting on the couch with the book cover folded back and end up turning it in all directions depending on the image. Because the cover is nice and stiff, my coloring surface is pretty stable. The middle of the book is harder to bend the cover back but I still manage OK. It would be much easier if it had a spiral binding. The paper is reasonably thick compared to a few other books I have. For the most part I have seen little bleed through even from the Bics and Sharpies, but to be safe I keep a sheet of scrap paper between the coloring page and the next one. I have seen some complaints about the quality of the image reproduction and i have seen what they are talking about, but so far it hasn't been an issue with my ability to color the image

I like that the variety of images gives me some simple and easy to quickly finish for instant gratification and others that are more complex and take me several sessions to complete.

The honest words of Rupi Kaur leave you continuously wanting more as she writes with eloquence and poise. Her work will send you to past thoughts and realities you might not have known you had.

This book is, in my opinion, something everyone should read, regardless of gender. The author is female, and so of course it is written from a female perspective, but everyone has experienced love, loss, heartbreak and healing. We can all find something which speaks to us in her book.

I am not usually that big a fan of poetry reading, mostly because they tend to be angsty or exhaustively epic. I also find that most poetry I've run across (or wished to run over, hah) has used gimmicks like line breaks to cover up crappy writing and introduce a whiff of true creativity where none really exists.

wonderful collection of poems! So well written and really something anyone can relate to; it was very touching! There were a few poems in there that really resonated with me and made me tear up. She's very talented!

This book is absolutely beautiful. For any young woman who wants to heal after a break up, grow after a failure. Rupi Kaur gives you hope that you are not alone and you can make it. So inspirational! Every woman should read this, its better than I'd hoped, the author really speaks to you on a personal level. It's as if every word was written for you. This has quickly become one of my favorites.

The Rosie Project: A Novel

Read The Rosie Project: A Novel OnlineNow in paperback, the international bestselling romantic comedy “bursting with warmth, emotional depth, and humor,” (Entertainment Weekly) featuring the oddly charming, socially challenged genetics professor, Don, as he seeks true love.

The art of love is never a science: Meet Don Tillman, a brilliant yet socially inept professor of genetics, who’s decided it’s time he found a wife. In the orderly, evidence-based manner with which Don approaches all things, he designs the Wife Project to find his perfect partner: a sixteen-page, scientifically valid survey to filter out the drinkers, the smokers, the late arrivers.

Read The Rosie Project: A Novel book online now. You also can download other books, magazine and also comics. Get online The Rosie Project: A Novel today.

Rosie Jarman possesses all these qualities. Don easily disqualifies her as a candidate for The Wife Project (even if she is “quite intelligent for a barmaid”). But Don is intrigued by Rosie’s own quest to identify her biological father. When an unlikely relationship develops as they collaborate on The Father Project, Don is forced to confront the spontaneous whirlwind that is Rosie―and the realization that, despite your best scientific efforts, you don’t find love, it finds you.

Arrestingly endearing and entirely unconventional, Graeme Simsion’s distinctive debut “navigates the choppy waters of adult relationships, both romantic and platonic, with a fresh take (USA TODAY). “Filled with humor and plenty of heart, The Rosie Project is a delightful reminder that all of us, no matter how we’re wired, just want to fit in” (Chicago Tribune).

Genetics professor Don Tillman’s ordered, predictable life is thrown into chaos when love enters the equation in this immensely enjoyable novel. Never good with social cues, Don explains his difficulty empathizing with others, which he forthrightly says is a defining symptom of the autism spectrum, as a result of his brain simply being wired differently. Diagnosis is not the issue here, as the reader is rooting for Don as he searches for ways to fit in. With his fortieth birthday approaching, he designs a questionnaire to find a compatible female life partner using his overriding devotion to logic. But he finds his quest competing with the request of a woman to discover the identity of her biological father. The protagonist is passingly similar to that of Haddon’s The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (2003), but Simsion’s first novel is not as dark, focusing instead on the humor and significance of what makes us human. Don is used to causing amusement or consternation in others, but as his self-awareness and understanding grow, so do his efforts to behave more appropriately. Determined and unintentionally sweet, Don embarks on an optimistic and redemptive journey. Funny, touching, and hard to put down, The Rosie Project is certain to entertain even as readers delve into deep themes. For a book about a logic-based quest for love, it has a lot of heart.

The Rosie Project is the first novel by Australian author and playwright, Graeme Simsion. Professor Don Tillman is unmarried, and a consideration of the statistics leads him to conclude he needs a wife. While Don's physical attributes and career should make him an attractive prospective husband, his social ineptitude has resulted in a track record of unsatisfactory dating experiences, the Apricot Ice Cream Disaster and the Pig Trotter Disaster being just two examples. He therefore decides to vet applicants for his Wife Project with a 16-page (double-sided) questionnaire, in the interests of efficiency. When Rosie Jarman sweeps into his life, Don quickly concludes that this smoking, swearing barmaid with punctuality problems is entirely unsuitable, yet, against all his rational instincts, he decides to offer his expertise in genetics in the search for her father. Soon his regimented, logical life is turned upside down: Don learns the danger inherent in judging a person by their occupation, and that not everything in life follows a formula.

Simsion has created a very funny novel which also has the reader thinking about emotion and logic, love and friendship, conventionality and non-conformists, and what it takes to modify one's behaviour. This is a fast-paced love story with an interesting twist. Simsion's characters have plenty of depth and the fact that none of them is perfect adds to their appeal. While Don may be wired differently (mentally assessing the age and BMI of everyone he meets, reacting to stress with a spreadsheet or a schedule), he has integrity, focus, enthusiasm and determination, and it is impossible not to feel empathy with him even while laughing at his missteps. And impossible not to shed a tear when he suspects he is incapable of love and therefore unacceptable. This novel is filled with laugh-out-loud moments: a madcap cocktail party, a dance fiasco and a novel escape from a bathroom, to name just a few. Don's highly embarrassing moment with an instruction book, a skeleton and the University Dean is utterly hilarious. The irony of Don delivering a lecture on Asperger's is quite delicious, and who could guess there would be so many inventive ways to obtain a DNA sample! This is a brilliant debut novel. It is no surprise to learn that it won the Victorian Premier's Literary Award for an unpublished manuscript in 2012, and that the rights have been sold to over 30 countries. I look forward to more from Graeme Simsion.

Strongly recommended

A very creative and important drama, with special , meaningful characters. I strongly recommend this reading. Definitely not your typical romance, but one that will last. I felt like I was reading a book written by Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory. That's what made it charming.

From the acclaimed author of Forever, Interrupted and After I Do comes a breathtaking new novel about a young woman whose fate hinges on the choice she makes after bumping into an old flame; in alternating chapters, we see two possible scenarios unfold—with stunningly different results.

At the age of twenty-nine, Hannah Martin still has no idea what she wants to do with her life. She has lived in six different cities and held countless meaningless jobs since graduating college. On the heels of leaving yet another city, Hannah moves back to her hometown of Los Angeles and takes up residence in her best friend Gabby’s guestroom. Shortly after getting back to town, Hannah goes out to a bar one night with Gabby and meets up with her high school boyfriend, Ethan.

Just after midnight, Gabby asks Hannah if she’s ready to go. A moment later, Ethan offers to give her a ride later if she wants to stay. Hannah hesitates. What happens if she leaves with Gabby? What happens if she leaves with Ethan?

In concurrent storylines, Hannah lives out the effects of each decision. Quickly, these parallel universes develop into radically different stories with large-scale consequences for Hannah, as well as the people around her. As the two alternate realities run their course, Maybe in Another Life raises questions about fate and true love: Is anything meant to be? How much in our life is determined by chance? And perhaps, most compellingly: Is there such a thing as a soul mate?

Hannah believes there is. And, in both worlds, she believes she’s found him.

The concurrent storyline concept is what piqued my curiosity with Maybe in Another Life. I was curious to see how, or if, an author could essentially tell two different stories about the same characters within one book. Taylor Jenkins Reid DID IT and did it incredibly well! In the alternating chapters we see the consequences of Hannah’s decision to stay with Ethan, and the consequences of her decision to go home with Gabby. The good, the bad, the happy, the make-me-cry-and-make-my-nose-run consequences. Each choice sets off a VASTLY different chain of events for Hannah and the rest of the characters and I loved watching each and every single character face their respective challenges, past mistakes, and uncertain futures with such raw, realistic human emotion.

This book. THIS BOOK. I totally got sucked in and read it in a day. That doesn’t happen for me much anymore. Clearly I can’t go into too much detail as this can be a spoilerly book so keep that in mind.

We have Hannah. She is kind of an aimless wanderer. She has moved ton, doesn’t have a set career path and just ended an affair with a married man. No better time to head home and reassess life than now. Her home is in LA with her best friend Gabby and her husband since her family moved to London back when Hannah was in high school. They have a welcome home night out with old friends and this is where our story can take two paths. Does Hannah stay longer with her old flame Ethan or head home early with Gabby and her husband? No need to guess because we get to see both scenarios play out.

Maria Sanchez, the hardworking daughter of Mexican immigrants, is the picture of conventional success. With a degree from Duke Law School and a job at a prestigious firm in Wilmington, she is a dark-haired beauty with a seemingly flawless professional track record. And yet Maria has a traumatic history of her own, one that compelled her to return to her hometown and left her questioning so much of what she once believed.

A chance encounter on a rain-swept road will alter the course of both Colin and Maria's lives, challenging deeply held assumptions about each other and ultimately, themselves. As love unexpectedly takes hold between them, they dare to envision what a future together could possibly look like . . . until menacing reminders of events in Maria's past begin to surface.

As a series of threatening incidents wreaks chaos in Maria's life, Maria and Colin will be tested in increasingly terrifying ways. Will demons from their past destroy the tenuous relationship they've begun to build, or will their love protect them, even in the darkest hour?

Rich in emotion and fueled with suspense, SEE ME reminds us that love is sometimes forged in the crises that threaten to shatter us . . . and that those who see us for who we truly are may not always be the ones easiest to recognize.

Honestly, the book is exactly what you think it’s going to be, and, it’s still good. It’s actually, really good, with a high readability and passes the time quickly.

I will be upfront; I’ve never seen a Nicholas Sparks movie, nor read a Nicholas Sparks book before; I’ve been doing my best to read a variety of books this year and changed genres. This was a pleasant read, quick, and moved fairly fast. I’m not much of a romance type of person, but even as someone who’s not into guys, the main protagonist Colin, was kind of dreamy. No, really, he actually was really dreamy. As a bad boy, MMA fighter, turned good, I thought that the character was a bit over played out in the initial chapters, but as it progressed, I found that he maintained likability and still kept my attention.

Tyme #1: Grounded: The Adventures of Rapunzel

Read Grounded: The Adventures of Rapunzel Online"Think you know Rapunzel's story? Think again, because the tower was only the beginning..." -- Jennifer Nielsen, New York Times bestselling author of THE FALSE PRINCE

In all of Tyme, from the Redlands to the Grey, no one is as lucky as Rapunzel. She lives in a magic tower that obeys her every wish; she reads wonderful books starring herself as the heroine; her hair is the longest, most glorious thing in the world. And she knows this because Witch tells her so---her beloved Witch, who protects her from evil princes, the dangerous ground under the tower, even unhappy thoughts. Rapunzel can't imagine any other life.

Then a thief named Jack climbs into her room to steal one of her enchanted roses. He's the first person Rapunzel's ever met who isn't completely charmed by her (well, the first person she's met at all, really), and he is infuriating-- especially when he hints that Witch isn't telling her the whole truth. Driven by anger at Jack and her own nameless fears, Rapunzel descends to the ground for the first time, and finds a world filled with more peril than Witch promised and more beauty, wonder, and adventure than she could have dreamed.

This was a whole new take on the story of Rapunzel. As someone who enjoys reading fairy tales, and especially renditions different than the original, this was a fun and engaging story that will let you see Rapunzel and her feelings about the Witch. Rapunzel is definitely a bit conflicted when it comes to the Witch as you see in this book seeing that she was what she thought of as her mother as well as her captor.

The author of this book truly captures some great adventure and action in this story but combines this with a light wit and humor that makes the story fun and easy to read. My daughter and I read this together and we both found that we were very interested to see what would happen never to Rapunzel and the other characters that we met throughout the book.

This invigorating story is perfect for fans of the movie Tangled, readers of fairy tales, and anyone looking for an unforgettable adventure. As one of my favorite reads ever, I can’t wait to flip through these pages again and again, soaking up the magic of Rapunzel and Jack’s journey. Grounded has addicted me to the world of Tyme, and I wish all the speed of the fairies for the next book to come along.
