Kateryn is haunted by her predecessors and tries to avoid their fatal "mistakes" yet she also finds that a living queen cannot compete with the dead Jane Seymour, mother to Henry's only living son. She even finds it difficult to deal with Anne of Cleves, who had graciously side-stepped marriage with the King, and was now a favoured member of court. In a double irony that Tudor lovers will appreciate, while Henry's previous wives were obsessed with delivering a healthy male heir, Kateryn is portrayed as terrified of becoming pregnant to Henry, because another failed pregnancy would humiliate the King, endangering her life.

This story should appeal to romance fiction readers, although some might consider it a bodice ripper and Kateryn too sexualised for the sixteenth century. Before Kateryn accepts her fate as Henry’s sixth wife, she commiserates with her lover, Seymour, and her sister, Nan, who reminds her of her duty to their family’s legacy and fortune. Phillipa Gregory portrays Kateryn Parr as deeply conflicted with the dead body of her late husband barely cold in the grave, her hopes of marrying her dashing lover doomed when Henry, old, bloated and grotesque, throws himself at her feet. She is not only repulsed by the very thought of marrying Henry, but is terrified that when like her predecessors she falls out of favour she will be dragged to the Tower. As Kateryn faces her fate, Gregory likens Henry VIII more to the murderous Bluebeard than an autocratic and aging monarch.

Like many Jojo Moyes fans, after reading Me Before You, the story of Louisa and Will stayed close to my heart, long after I had read it. I often pondered about what life would now be like for Louisa and what she would be up to, so when I heard that the author was writing a sequel I couldn't wait to get my hands on it.

It's been quite a while since I've read one of the In Death books but when I spotted this on a Netgalley I just couldn't resist. It's a great concept to showcase the possible workings of New York police in the future and to centre it around such very strong characters . Eve and Roarke are always front and centre but as this series has progressed it's been admirably fleshed out with a supporting cast with all the enthusiasm of the Scooby gang! Now add in the fact that each book is a crime drama to solve with police procedure driving it but with the twist of the addition of futuristic technology. Happily even though it is set in 2061 it still feels like the world we inhabit today but with faster cars, computers etc and of course the addition of droids!

There is very little mystery here as the reader already knows from the start just who the killers are. No I'd describe it more as a process as Eve follows the (admittedly high tech) crumbs to unravel a chain of murders that could see a body count of twenty four or even more. The synopsis says "star crossed lovers" so Romeo and Juliet spring to mind but personally I'd liken the killers to the infamous Bonnie and Clyde as they wilfully leave death and devastation in their wake. What brought a fresh prospective to this book was the addition of a Deputy who refuses to just let his case slide and there's even dark cop humour to lighten the mood.

Sometimes it's hard for me to review a Maya Banks book because I just love her writing style and haven't disliked anything she has written. This series is one I had overlooked. All three books are quick reads and very enjoyable. I felt everything Ellie felt un understood. All her pain and humiliation. But she is a strong woman and fought for her HEA. I liked Gracie's spunk and honesty. I was happy that she got her fantasy an forgave Luke for sort of tricking her. Poor Wes! Suck a difficult "problem" for a big guy to have. After several false starts, I was happy that he and Payton got together in the end.

UNDERSTOOD is the story of Ellie Matthews and Jake Turner. Ellie was married to Jake's former high school friend. Her marriage almost destroyed her and Jake blames himself for not seeing the abuse going on in the marriage. I like the way Maya Banks writes. So I was happy to find "Unbroken", her latest, contains three (count 'em, three) interconnected stories. Obviously, none of them are too long, but then again that just makes them the perfect length for sneaking in a quick read when time is short.

The book was a joy to read. I like all the characters in all the three stories. I was expecting more, but I know it was short stories book. Overall the book was a good read.

As this is the third book in the Slow Burn Series, I feel it is worth mentioning that Safe At Last could easily be read as a standalone, as the primary romance is fully explained within this book. That said, there certainly is some overlap with characters previously introduced earlier in the series, including the two prior heroines who each have their own unique supernatural gift. Therefore, to the extent you do plan to read the entire series, it is best read in order.

In this third book of the Slow Burn trilogy, Maya Banks has finally written a book which is on par with the level of quality she creates in each and every one of her KGI series books, which is why I have entitled this review "A Safe Bet At Last". I have been extremely disappointed with the male characters in her previous trilogies who fell far short of the expected level their character roles needed them to be and subsequently were great disappointments and failed to keep their end of the book alive. This is the first time I have found a lead male character in one of the trilogy novels who has considered someone else before he considered himself. The others have all come off as totally self-centered and so absorbed in their own little ego trips that they failed to see what was so obvious in front of their own faces - that they had missed the mark totally with the women that they supposed loved and had blown it "BIG TIME". I would never have given any of them a second chance and frankly I think all of the female leads were in need of some serious time with some expert counseling sessions. But this one is different and it is this difference that makes this book one that you are not able to put down until you find out how the story is going to end. I literally could not put the book down until I finished it - I was caught up in the story from the very beginning until the very end and was kept guessing until the very end as well. Well done Ms. Banks!!! This is one for the keeper shelves right next to the entire KGI series and I can't say that for many of the others.

I have started using Adult Coloring Books as a way to de-stress. I know that many crafts use the same part of the brain that one uses in meditation, so I wasn't surprised to read that many other adults were turning to coloring. I have bought several different types of books and I find that I like a lot of the ones by Creative Haven/Dover. I have found that my non-alcohol based markers and my gel pens all leak through this brand of book, so I am sure to place paper between the pages to keep the pages behind fresh and clean. I've found that freezer paper works really well for this purpose.

The pages of the book are single-sided and are perforated at the bound edge so you can remove the page to color or to frame afterwards. The pages are a bright white and have a decent pound weight - they are not flimsy.

This is the second Creative Haven book by Marjorie Sarnat (her first has been one of my favorite - Cats.) This book of Owls is now tied for for my top honors. There are 31 images to color (if you don't include the small faceplate on the title page.) The images have a wide range, including: an owl sitting on a wildly decorated crescent moon, an owl with butterflies, a "smart" owl amongst his/her books, owls on a wooden rocking horse, pirate owls, fairy tale owl, totem pole owls, steampunk owl, the owl and the pussycat (yes, cat included!) and many, many more.

Marjorie Sarnat has created another stunning and imaginative coloring book. Very detailed images. What can I say, I love owls and coloring! A marriage made in Creative Haven!
As in another, more detailed review (see Magnificent Mehndi Designs from Creative Haven) these images were created with adults in mind; fine motor skills are a must because there are a lot of small to very small spaces to fill. What makes coloring so stress reducing for me - I have to concentrate on detail on the page and not a lot about anything else - ahh...relaxation for the mind.
I use colored pencils, the paper it is printed on is not that thick for watercolors so I don't suggest that, but each page has only one image on one side and the page is perforated so that it can be torn out and colored separately. Crayons, pens, markers and pastels could also be used to color these very detailed pictures. Remember when playing was fun? It's back!

What a wonderful book , full of stunning, imaginative, very detailed, highly decorated, animal drawings, a couple are simply detailed, a couple more than diabolically detailed, most are just right, like the Cat I colored and I am attaching. The images are centered on each page and include both just head images and full animal images. Coloring in this book takes a steady hand, challenges your creativity, and inspires you.

This is a wonderful coloring book with artistic drawings of animals that will delight any animal lover. I just received this book yesterday and have finished coloring the turtle. I used gel pens for this picture but some of the drawings will have to be colored with pencils as some of the pictures have tiny, tiny areas. I am very happy with this book and would recommend it to anyone that isn't afraid of a challenge.

PS: The grey areas on the turtle are actually silver and look much better than the picture does it justice.I also use Staedtler Triplus Fineliner gel pens. They are very fine-tipped and can reach those tiny areas. Shout-out to the publishers for sending a new copy of this book for free. That one included the lion drawing. I loved this book before now I have one more reason to love it even more.

I've given several coloring books for adults who are hospitalized and/or home bound and they've been a real hit. Quite often, visitors are invited to join in so the results include good memories as well as pretty patterns. This book in particular has especially beautiful designs and are gorgeous when colored. It's hard to choose a favorite.

It's a good start on the basics of Dr. Dyer's philosophy and it's very succinct. You really can't go wrong with this! I am on day three- which is the interesting thing about this- you can stretch it out into weeks, if you really want to get your head around the concept. But that it offers some structure helps immensely! I started reading "Excuses Begone!" When I picked up this sweet number. I think it'll give me the heads up I need to really take in the bigger picture Dyer's looking at.

Wayne Dyer gives the reader a guide to help grasp the ideas of becoming what we are created for.Each of the 21 lessons builds on the day before yet you can start reading at any point and receive a blessing! This is the second book in a series. It can be read on it's own without leaving the reader feeling one step behind. It does visit the couple from the previous book.

Lady Brenna and Connor MacAlister met long ago, when she was a little girl. He rescued her from pigs, she proposed. Years later she is on her way from England to Scotland to marry a man she has never met.

Connor is a Laird and a man seeking revenge for his father's death. He knows that his enemy's bride is on her way and he decides to take the bride for himself. He has no idea it's the woman who as a little girl proposed to him.

Brenna is not happy about either choice for marriage. She chooses to marry Connor in order to save her father's men who were guarding her.

This is one of my favorite Julie Garwood books. What should seem like an unbelievable and ridiculous start to a relationship instead seems not only plausible but even romantic. Connor and Brenna have a wonderful chemistry and their characters seem very tangible.

Brenna is a mischievous, warm, caring heroine. She is eager to please her husband, his staff, his men and even his stepmother.

Connor is a strong leading male with a heart he is determined not to give away. He tries to keep Brenna `in line' but in the end always relents.

There are some wonderful supporting characters. Connor's two most trusted men Quinlan and Crispin. They offer some comic relief and there is a real brotherhood between the three. Father Sinclair marries Brenna and Connor, and then becomes Brenna's friend and Priest. Connor's stepmother adds some conflict to the story. She runs Brenna and the staff ragged. Alec and Jamie, from The Bride, also make appearances in this story.

This story is about Connors quest for revenge and his search for his father traitor. Brenna's longing for love and her efforts to please her husband. It's a believable, wonderful historical romance.
